I am able to log into my admin site without any problems solely on the strength of not updating to WordPress 3.9. I really wish I hadn’t done the updates at all.

But now that I have, I can’t log into any admin files. I have tried changing “plugins” to “pluginshold” on the FTP site but I can’t get past the log-in point.

And even if I try to manage one of the other blogs, I get this message “Drat! It looks like you are running an old version of Jetpack on USAgain Atlanta, please (upgrade) in order to access the latest features!”

But the only way to update Jetpack is to log in and I can’t log in.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

I tried resetting the plug-ins folder and nothing changed. I still couldn’t log in. But after stepping back to breathe and try to figure out what to do next, I went home and used my PC. I realized none of the problems I was having on a Mac were ones I was having on a PC. Now whether that’s coincidental or not, I went to the same live site and the same backend of the site, and now I can see everything.

Not sure if the faulty plug-ins are linked to a browser or PC vs. Mac issue somehow. But I tested them all in Firefox on a PC, and I don’t have any of the issues I had all day today.

I’d suggest users try this first before renaming everything, etc.
