    Hi,

I have a testimonial slider on my home page; a scan on GTMetrix has flagged that the images are not adequately sized and offer an oportunity to improve page load speed.

When I view the report I am presented with the following link which I understand is because the images are hosted with Jetpack / Gravatar. I found this odd as these are static stock images that I loaded and not of any persons that have visited the site?

    https://i2.wp.com/www.exceedsamedaycouriers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/5.png?w=800&ssl=1

I need to update the images with resized versions but as they are not on my server simply changing the image in the post has no effect. How do I update the images that are being served from the i2.wp.com URL?

    Thanks in anticipation….

    James

Photon will serve any image present in the content, in fact removing the original from the server will remove them from Photon too.

The image in question is definitely present in your source at https://www.exceedsamedaycouriers.co.uk/ though I’m not sure where it’s supposed to appear or what’s adding it. Photon isn’t adding it though, it’s simply serving it because it’s already present in your page’s source.

You may be able to get away with accessing your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigating to /wp-content/uploads/2018/03/ and replacing 5.png there with a resized version.

Though, honestly if the image isn’t supposed to appear in the first place, finding out what’s adding it to your source and removing it will be the best solution.

    Hi James,

    Thanks for the reply.

The image is supposed to be there – its a “face” for a testimonial that I have.

The issue is that even when I change the image (via WP Admin) for another with a more appropriate scaling the image served on the page doesn’t change. I’ve cleared the cache, purged the URL, everything and the image doesn’t change.

In short I could not influence the image being served by the Photon CDN simply by changing the source image. Any suggestions?

****** Actually (sorry!) I’ve realised the obvious. I’ll switch off Photon, change the images, and then switch it back on again. See if that causes them to refresh / reload.

    Cheers, James

Is the image in question part of a slider? If so, we’re not entirely compatible with all themes yet, particularly sliders give up a bit of trouble since those have their own resizing protocols.

Do you see a properly sized image with Photon switched off?

    Hi James,

I,ve only just come back to this but have just today found some information on Jetpack’s site that would explain my issues…

    https://jetpack.com/support/site-accelerator/

Basically the pages advises that images are cached forever so file names need to be changed to refresh the image.

Yes, if you ever want to clear an image from our CDN, it’s best to just re-upload it with a different file name.

If you let us know the full URL from our CDN, we can purge it from our cache too, but that definitely takes more time for us to get to the request and then do it. ??
