I’m adding a new galley via media uploader into a Classic Editor plugin text post and using Jetpack’s various classic gallery settings to provide a desired look for a posting.. Recently the gallery view has, when not sel;ecting squares or circles, defalted to the basic mosaic view with 3 columns. However it’s not honoring the # of columns setting when using anything else.. i.e. 1 column, large image size, and tiled colums (or mosaic) set. We want the tiled columns and other display options to work with 1, 2 3, 4, etc colums as selected and not do wwhatever it wants to..

We also need a way to set the overlay’s max z-index so as to be above those google floater ads..

There are no other slideshow or gallery plugins enabled on the site.

What can we do or how can we fix this?

  • Hi @ppnsteve,

Thanks for this report! I believe you have stumbled upon a small bug with the Classic Editor + Tiled Gallery.

For Tiled Columns and Tiled Mosaic types, the number of columns is calculated automatically based on the content width. In that case, the dropdown menu to select number of columns should be hidden, since it is not relevant.

However, the code that hides that option seems to not be working any more.

I have filed a bug report, but I can’t say if it’s something we will priorize fixing.

Your workarounds are to switch to the Block Editor, or us only Square Tiles or Circle types, which should respect the number of columns set.

We also need a way to set the overlay’s max z-index so as to be above those google floater ads..

I checked the z-index for the floater ad and it’s 2147483647. Pretty high! ??

There may be something in your terms of service with Google Ads that requires its z-index to always be higher than other elements on the page, but you would have to check with them to be sure.

Let us know if we can help with anything else!
