Lately I’ve been experiencing that my website is loading slowly. I had a feeling it was related to the latest Jetpack update because I was getting issues with Publicize, which I deactivated and reactivated reconnected to my social sites. My host suggested that I check the database error logs and I found a bunch of errors related to Jetpack Stats. I also remembered that the Jetpack Stats graph in the menubar seemed to not be loading properly for the past few days, so I tried disabling Jetpack Stats and my website seems to loading better.

But I’m still getting a lot of database errors which seem to be related to Jetpack. Here’s a sample of one.

Hope you can help check out the database error to see if there’s still something in Jetpack that needs to be disabled or fixed. Or should I just deactivate and reactivate all the Jetpack modules I’m using?

Can you let me know what site you’re having this problem? Once I have that information, I’ll be better able to help. From the error messages, it looks like there’s a problem with your site synching with our servers. To check that issue, I need the URL of your site since it isn’t evident in that error log.

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Carolyn! Thanks for your response. Our website is https://brideandbreakfast.ph. We have another website in the same server, https://babyandbreakfast.ph, and we’re getting the same errors, but it’s not slow (although it doesn’t have the same traffic). Let me know how else I can help.

Checking the error logs – it shows that there isn’t a problem per se; what happened is that the call from your site to our servers to get related posts in this case took 758ms which was above the alert threshold of 500ms that WP Engine has set. However, the call was allowed to go through so it didn’t prevent any of the connections or error out.

Additionally, this error in particular is unlikely to be causing site slowness as the call for related posts is only loaded via AJAX after the page has rendered to the end user. So if there’s any slow loading times, it wouldn’t be due to this particular item.

I checked your site’s connection to our servers and everything seems to be working properly. Can you try re-enabling Stats to see if that issue comes back? If so, please leave Stats on and I will troubleshoot the issue further.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Carolyn. Thanks for the reply. I actually haven’t re-enabled Stats yet, but I’m running into some slowness issues again. So I’m wary of re-enabling Stats because it might make it worse.

I’m currently working on this issue with WP Engine. In the meantime, is there anything else on your end you can do to help or troubleshoot?

A related question, is it possible that another feature or plugin is causing the database to slow down because of a lot of queries, and that’s also affecting Jetpack features, therefore causing this issue?

    Thanks!

Nothing that we can do on our end until you hear back from WP Engine. Since it seems to be database related, they would be the best ones to troubleshoot those issues.

Otherwise, you can try these basic troubleshooting steps:

    1. Enable Twenty Fourteen (a default theme) to rule out a theme conflict.
    2. Disable all plugins and turn them back on one by one until you see issues again.

Let me know what you hear back!

Did some troubleshooting with WP Engine and it looks like there was another plugin causing the site to slow down, since it’s collecting a lot of information. I’ve now fixed that other plugin and reactivated Jetpack Stats and am monitoring the site to see if the site still slows down.

I have a feeling that the reason why Jetpack Stats errors were coming up in the logs is because it was trying to access the database at the same time as the other plugin.

    Thanks!
