Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com

    Hello,

    I keep getting this error when using Jetpack on my local WordPress environment.

    Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
    SSLRead() return error -9806

    I am using the latest version of WordPress on all sites with the native OS X server. I am using the pre-installed Apache / PHP with the latest version of MySQL and phpMyAdmin (though this component is probably not relevant to the issue).

    I’ve setup the permissions (not sure if entirely correctly). Also, I am using ngrok to allow localhost access from the internet using a custom domain as it always binds that domain to my internet connection (and to my IP). That domain is also setup to point to 127.0.0.1 on my localhost to make sure I have access to it even when offline.

    That’s pretty much my setup – any ideas what can I do to fix the issue?

    Howdy Alexandru,

    I believe this is caused because the version of PHP shipped with OS X using a SSL transport that allows POODLE, which WordPress.com does not accept due to security issues with it.

    Hello,

    I followed the steps and I still get the error:

    Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
SSLRead() return error -9806

    :
    If I run the SSL check commend, it now returns this:
    SSL Version => OpenSSL/1.0.2a

    Can you please use Jetpack’s Debugger module to send us some more information about your site?

    1) Go to the Jetpack page in your dashboard.
    2) Click on the Debug link appearing at the bottom of the page.
    3) Click the link that says “click here to contact Jetpack support.”
    4) Fill in the description box and your name and email address.
    5) Click the “Contact Support” button.
