    Hello,

After the recent WordPress update, I am no longer to edit or create posts and pages. I am getting the “The editor has encountered an unexpected error” message. When I deactivated Jetpack on my staging site, the issue resolved. When I reinstated the plug-in, the issue returned.

I cannot get rid of Jetpack (I use them for daily site backups). How do I resolve this quickly? I am trying to post daily and this is going to set me back within a few days.

I sent a message to Jetpack support last night and am waiting for a response. If there is anything I can do on my end to resolve this, please let me know.

    Thank you so much.
    Best, Summer

In order to work properly, Jetpack needs to be able to connect to your site via XML-RPC. Right now if you have a look at your site’s XML-RPC here:
    https://summeryule.com/xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack

You will notice that there is a warning that this file has been blocked by Mod_Security.

I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to help you disable this block so that your XML-RPC will look like this:

    https://jetpack.com/xmlrpc.php

Unfortunately, blocking XML-RPC is not a great solution for fighting security risks. It’s akin to selling your car because you don’t want it to be stolen.

Your site’s XML-RPC file is kind of like a communication gateway to your site. Jetpack, the WordPress Mobile Apps, and other plugins and services will use this file to communicate to your site. If this is blocked, you will have other issues pop-up down the road for the same reasons.

I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to unblock your site’s XML-RPC. The most popular hosting providers out there have managed to find other ways to protect their servers without having to hinder your site and your ability to use services with your WordPress.

Interesting, thank you. I’ve actually had conflicts between ModSecurity and Jetpack before. The first time this occurred, the host basically told me that Jetpack needs to deal with it. This time, they told me that their higher-level experts will be getting back to me soon (hopefully 24 hours).

If they cannot resolve this quickly, I am going to have to find a new host since my site is unusable this way.
