Jetpack comments textarea not working well in Firefox

    Today I got an email from a visitor who tried leaving a comment on our website, that in Firefox “Enter” dos not work in the comments field.

    I tested it myself:

    Firefox 118.0.1
    WordPress 6.3.1
    Jetpack plugin: 12.6.2

    I start typing in the comment textarea and when I hit “Enter” to add a new paragraph nothing happens. It seems like the “Enter” key has been disabled. This only happens in Firefox. It works in Chrome and Safari.

    We use Jetpack comments for the comment section.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Is this a Firefox bug or a Jetpack bug?

    Edit: even when copy pasting text with paragraphs, it removes the “Enter” spaces.

    Hello @daricedotorg – when I checked it with my test site, it is working working perfectly fine (with Jetpack comments). In fact I can also use Tab button to select the Comment option and clicking on Enter submit is successfully.

    Have you tried the same with any other browser or from any other device on Firefox browser?

    Hi!

    Yes, I tested in other browsers on macOs (Safari, Brave and Orion) and it works fine. The user who contacted me about the issue is on Windows. And his main browsers is Firefox. He detected the issue. And told me it does work in Chrome in Windows.

    I just tested again and it seems like the latest update of Jetpack fixed the problem. It works again. Although the change log doesn’t mention anything about the comment module.

    I’m gonna consider this as a temporary bug in Jetpack that is now fixed.
