Jetpack Causes White Screen / 500 Server Error
-
Today I noticed that pages of my website were not loading, instead only displaying the WordPress “white screen of death.” Google Chrome displays a server error (Error code: 500) when this happens.
I first noticed the problem when I was perusing through archive pages of my old posts. The home page full of posts works, as does the second page. However, page 3, 4, 5, etc. render the white screen. Sometimes other pages (such as the home page) are affected as well.
I’ve spent hours tweaking and testing plugins and I believe Jetpack to be the culprit. When the plugin is inactive, I have no problem. When I reactivate the plugin, the problem reappears.
The problem seems to occur when I am logged into the WordPress dashboard. When I view the same pages from other browsers where I am not logged in, I can still view the pages. Very strange.
I would rather not do away with Jetpack as I rely on the stats functionality. However, I do not want my readers encountering white screens while on my website.
Hopefully someone can offer me some guidance. It would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I should also note that for several months I have been unable to use my WordPress iOS app. When I would try to load posts/pages, I would get an “internal server error.” When Jetpack was deactivated while I was trying to figure out what was wrong, the iOS app worked perfectly for the first time in months. I doubt this is a coincidence.
