    Two quick questions:

    1. I have Jetpack installed. Is that what the “default” newsletter signup is from? In other words, is that the update button I find to signup?

    2. I currently have Mailchimp as my newsletter. If I switch over to the above update function is there a way to add to the email my subscribers get in addition to the post? Would I be able to add a note to the post that isn’t in the original post on mm site?

I hope all that made sense…

    1. For details on our subscriptions system, please see https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/

    2. At this time, our subscriptions system only sends out new posts, there is no way currently to send other emails to the list, and the emails will only contain the post’s content as it appears on the site.

Thanks so much! So, the subscription system you mentioned is the one from Jetpack or is it something that is a default system with WordPress?

There is no default subscription system included in the core WordPress software. By default the only way to subscribe to a WordPress site is to follow the site’s RSS feed via a feed reader. Email subscriptions are always enabled via a plugin.

The link James provided above is for the Jetpack Subscriptions module, which sends new post notification emails via WordPress.com’s servers for people who sign up to receive them.

A newsletter is something different, and uses a mailing list to which you manually send email campaigns which you create via the control panel of whatever newsletter service you’re using. New posts aren’t automatically sent out to people who are subscribed to your newsletter, unless you’re specifically using a newsletter plugin that works in that way.
