    Hola a todos,
when I installed this two days ago, it all seemed fine. But now there seem to be three different bugs, if not even more:

    1. Post by Email deactivates comments on new posts.
    2. Attached images are resized to maximum width.
    3. Text below embedded images (in emails from iOS devices in my case) is deleted, with or without an additional “[end]” tag.

    Can anyone confirm this?

I think these bugs can only be adjusted on Jetpack’s server side and are out of control for users like us. But I’d love to be wrong and happily fix it myself if I knew a solution.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

    1. Could you try to add the following shortcode to your emails, and see if comments get enabled?
    [comments on]

    2. Did you enable the new Jetpack Photon module? If you enable it, your images will be resized to fit your site’s content width.

    3. Did you add an email signature to all outgoing emails from your iPhone? Indeed, Post By Email will ignore all content inserted after a signature block:
    --

If you insert the image after your email signature, that might be what’s causing the issue.

Hi, thx for the quick reply!
I could try the shortcode, but the initial question is why I should enable something that is already enabled by default and only ignored by the Jetpack plugin?

I haven’t yet activated Photon. Let me try this.

As for the signature: the text between an (embedded) image and the signature (i.e. above the signature block) is deleted. It is ok if Jetpack deletes the signature, but it also treats anything below an image (maybe because of the encoding) and above the signature as a signature.
The same happens when I post from Outlook 2010, btw.

Could you let me know what your Discussion settings are? Did you enable comments there, or do you enable them on a post by post basis?

Thx, Jeremy! The setting I am using “Allow people to post comments on new articles” and it is activated by default.

Thanks for the info. I’ve let our developers know about the issue so that we can look into it in more detail.

I will get back to you as soon as I know more!

The problem should now be fixed. Could you try to send a new Post by Email?

    Thread Starter kikuyumoja

    (@kikuyumoja)

I’ve just tried it, but the problems are still the same, i.e. a) text below an image (I sent an image via e-mail from my iOS device) is cut off and b) the image is resized to 1024×1024 whereas the original image is much smaller. Thx!

Edit: tried it again with another e-mail address, also via the iPhone. The resizing issue still existis (Photon moves my images to WP.com?), but the cut off text above signatures is related to Gmail. Damn.

Photon moves my images to WP.com?

Photon doesn’t move your images, it caches them to a CDN (Content Delivery Network). You can find out more about Photon at the following links:

    1. Post by Email deactivates comments on new posts.
    2. Attached images are resized to maximum width.
    3. Text below embedded images (in emails from iOS devices in my case) is deleted, with or without an additional “[end]” tag.

I tested Post by Email on a blog using WordPress 3.4.2 and Jetpack 2.0, and I wasn’t able to reproduce number 1 and 3 from your list. All the text below my image worked, and comments were enabled in the new post that got created. My main discussion settings are set to allow images.

Did the text in your text contain several dashes in a row?

I need to figure out how to insert a small image and then do another test to see if I can reproduce #2.

Hi, thx for the feedback so far, appreciate it.
#1 is now fixed, comments are open.
#2 is still around – images are inserted at 1024×1024. Photon is not activated (I tried Photon for a moment, but this also had the images on existing posts to show up in maximum width).

Did the text in your text contain several dashes in a row?

Yes, it contains several dashes in a row. But I am referring to the text above that signature line (which, btw, is just the usual “sent from my iPhone” sig). This seems to be related to Gmail though for some unknown reasons.

The link you mentioned seems to be a issue with reading incoming mail in Gmail, I’m not sure whether or not what they’re talking about would affect outgoing email though.

I did a few more tests, and I see images sent via Post By Email getting added at 1024×1024 too. I’m not sure if that is by design or not (seems like not), so I am checking into it and will report back as soon as I have more info.

    Thread Starter kikuyumoja

    (@kikuyumoja)

Thx for your efforts so far!

I have meanwhile managed to isolae the problem of the cut off text after any image (via email from iOS) to be related to GMail only as it works fine with other addresses.

But I do have another question: will there be any styling options that let users decide where to place the text that goes along with an image? I mean I could certainly use shortcodes, but what if I would like to have a setting that lets me set this by default (e.g. headline, image, text/content)?

If I email a small image the post still selects the 1024 version which doesn’t exist. That creates a link with an empty href and an image tag with an empty src.

Posts above were five months ago. What’s the status on this?

    <img src=”” alt=”” title=”evx-jpg” width=”1024″ height=”1024″ class=”alignnone size-full wp-image-2702″ />

So I am searching all the posts related to Jetpack for a fix to a problem i am seeing with my jetpack install to no avail. There are a number of posts that have addressed but there still is no solution anywhere in the forums…

What is happening is that ALL IMAGES sent through jetpacks post-by-email function are sized to a height and width of 1024×1024. Period – i have tried this on multiple installs on multiple domains with multiple versions but have been having the problem with every one. I have tried to edit every possible setting with 1024 as a parameter but i cannot find where that parameter is defined.

So has anyone been able to adjust or fix this in any way besides just resizing the image to be correct after the fact?

We’re still working on a fix. But I’ll post here as soon as we have some news!
