I have a multisite installation with a number of sub sites associated with it.

Recently I noticed that one of the sub sites has had a problem with the contact form and ai1 event calendar, https://www.orcas.org.au. The form won’t send even though the user gets a confirmation message, and the calendar won’t load when activated (www.orcas.org.au/calendar).

I was comparing functions on another sub site I created and found that when I compared the ai1 widget creator I got a javascript error, ‘An error occurred while retrieving the data.’.

Clearly it is a localised issue that only affects this one sub site as the problem doesn’t occur on similar sites but I’m not sure how to fix it.

Can anyone advise on how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

  • Have you tried disabling other plugins that may conflict your contact form?

Hi Marc, thanks for your reply.

Yes, I’ve disabled all plugins but the problem persisted. Since I posted this problem I’ve found that there is a server error. Although not totally sure how to resolve the issue am in touch with my host for further assistance and waiting on their response.

    Hello Mika

I have a redirection active. From my limited understanding it’s the redirection that is causing the problem, is that right?

Thinking out loud here and going through the motions as I type…

I’ve checked other sub sites that have a redirection active and noticed none of these forms are working either. As opposed to sub sites with no redirection, these have no issues sending the contact form.

What is the best way to resolve this? I’ve contacted my host but they have not responded yet.

Well it really depends one what you did to make the redirection.

CROS won’t be something a host WANTS to enable. Are you doing any domain mapping or … whatever?

We need to know the details on what YOU mean by redirection and how you did it ??

Sorry for being so sketchy, here are more details:

I created the redirection through my host panel using ‘zone management’ and changing the CNAME for www to point to orcas.paraph.com.au (TTL 3600). All other settings were left as host default including MX, NS and SOA. (I work on the principle that if I don’t know what it is than it’s best to leave it alone.)

Under the WP network installation Settings / Domains I have the following settings (image):

Now, in checking other settings (Network / Sites / All Sites / orcas / Settings Tab) I noticed mail server URL settings and login were left as default (mail.example.com, [email protected], password) and suspect this may be the reason why. Is that correct? If so, do I update these to match that of the email address my client is using?

    404 on the images…

Okay so you did things in a weird way. I suppose I should ask this differently though.

    1) WHERE is WP installed? What’s the base URL?

    2) WHY is orcas.paraph.com.au a thing? Are you trying to map a subsite to that domain? Or does your main domain have two ‘home’ urls?

    (@paraphdesign)

Problem resolved, turns out it was the WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin that was causing the problem. An update was release since my last post which fixed the problem. Suspect there was a conflict between it and WP 4.0(.1)

Thanks for your help in trying to resolve my issue.

FYI: I have WP multisite installed on https://www.paraph.com.au with https://www.orcas.org.au redirected/cloaking to orcas.paraph.com.au

AH! You’re just domain mapping ??

    with https://www.orcas.org.au redirected/cloaking to orcas.paraph.com.au

Just FYI, parking the domain (or using an add-on domain) will generally be easier on you.

Don’t think I quite follow? Thought that was what I did.

    How do impose best practice?
