This is my first WP site.
The site I am trying to create was working OK last night.

Since then, I upgraded to WordPress version 3.9 and didn’t see any issues. This morning I tried to move a logo in my header by editing the header.php file that I copied into into my child theme folder and now all he content is scrambled. I’ve tried removing all the files from my child theme folder to see if it would go back to original, but it does not help.

I’ve spent hours doing this, I sure would appreciate help.

  • What happens if you switch to the unedited parent theme?

I don’t suppose you could tell me how to get that url, knowing that I’m working from a child theme labeled twentytwelve-child that is at the same root directory as twentytwelve?
It’s confusing me that I am not using a common url.

    Sorry? What url?

How else could I open the original index.php except from my host? If I open an unedited index.php from my computer the php scripts don’t work. Sorry, I’m a confused novice. I do not have a database setup at home.

I’m sorry but you have totally lost me! Nobody said anything about editing any index.php file.

I do have MAMP installed, but I don’t know how to set up these files to it. Would I need to connect them for the php to work?

What files? All you need to do is to navigate to Appearance -> Themes and switch to the original parent theme.

Oh, when I select Appearance I am notified that
“The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

    twentytwelve-child Stylesheet is missing.”

Does that refer to the original parent stylesheet or the child stylesheet?

While trying to troubleshoot earlier I replaced the original to make sure I hadn’t revised it.

Does that refer to the original parent stylesheet or the child stylesheet?

    The child’s stylesheet.

A stylesheet does exist in the original theme folder at this time.

And in the child theme’s folder?

    (@lyvereboy)

What if I were to totally replace the original theme? Would the content be lost?

No. Your site’s content is all stored in your database – with the exception of uploaded media files stored in the wp-content folder.

No .css file in the child’s theme folder now.

Why not? Did you review child themes?
