• So any help would be great with this one. I went to media library & deleted all unattached images, thinking it would only get rid of photos that weren’t being used. Turns out it deleted half of my webstore products images.

Now if i put all the images back on the server from a back up will the products just auto relink the image, as at the moment is showing the place holder so I’m thinking it won’t?

    Thanks

    Paul

just to add its about 1000 items affected by this. Also should there be like 15 different size versions of each image?

@supersound I’m not on the WooCommerce team, but I thought I’d chip in.

The problem you have is that any images you upload again via the media library will take on a brand new attachment ID, which won’t match with the original attachment ID that is bound to each product. So unless you have some kind of rollback with your web hosting company to a point before you removed the images, this could indeed be real pain to resolve.

A rollback to an earlier version of the site does of course come with the complication of potentially loosing any orders that have come in since you deleted all the images, so it’s a difficult one either way.

As for the image sizes, WordPress and WooCommerce both generate a number of different image thumbnails as standard, and it’s possible the theme you’re using generates several more. This is perfectly normal. ??

@davetgreen Thank you for the reply. If i was to upload the images back via ftp instead… would that work you think?

If not yea a roll back might be the case.

    Thanks again

    Hey Paul,

Even if you do an FTP upload, WordPress won’t know they exist until you add them back into the media library somehow (directly or by re-adding to each product).

I’d get an export of all your current orders, roll back, and then manually re-add each order to get you back to where you were.

As a developer I’ve been here before several years ago, and it’s a real pain. ??
