We recently launched a podcast, and we’re struggling with how the episodes display in iOS and Android apps. The podcast is hosted on Blubrry.

We are doing something a little different with PowerPress, whereby instead of publishing episodes in WP posts, we’re using WP pages. We have two plugins installed to allow an RSS feed to be generated from pages: RSS for Pages, and Category Tag Pages. We are configuring our settings under the Category Podcasting tab in PowerPress.

We tried checking the “Wrap summary values with <![CDATA[ … ]]> tags” option (both on the iTunes tab in Category settings as well as the main Advanced > iTunes settings), and it appears that a CDATA tag is being applied to the entire HTML of each episode page.

I understand that different apps use different tags from the RSS XML to render how episodes display. However, we noticed that the McKinsey Podcast, which also uses PowerPress, has only their itunes:summary / itunes:subtitle content displaying — not the entire web page, images and all.

If it helps, here is our podcast: https://go.forrester.com/what-it-means/, and here is the RSS URL: https://go.forrester.com/category/podcasts/what-it-means/feed/

Huge thanks in advance, and please let me know if you need other information.

    Hello @alewisforrester,

Forgive me, but this may take some time for me to reverse engineer exactly what you are doing to fully understand how you have things setup, let alone answer your question.

The option for CDATA tags only applies to itunes:summary tags. The contentLencoded CDATA is done by WordPress itself. I also do not know why your description is empty but again that is handled by WordPress, not PowerPress. It may have something to do with the excerpt not being an option with pages where it is with posts.

Can you be specific what your question is? I re-read what you posted but I didn’t pinpoint exactly what the issue is. I checked your podcast feed and it is valid.

    Hi @amandato,

Thanks very much for your reply. I was able to resolve the issue by unchecking the CDATA option in PowerPress > Advanced > iTunes settings, and going to WP Settings > Reading > For each article in a feed, show: and select “Summary.”

iTunes and Podcast Addict now show only the summary of each episode, not the entire content of the landing page the episode lives on.
