So last night I was going to post my new episode and saw that WordPress 4.5 was available. I upgraded to that version without any issues. Then went ahead and posted my latest episode to my show. Everything seemed to be fine.

This morning, a friend who also has a podcast, contacted me in a panic saying he posted his show last night and it’s not showing up! I checked my show episode and sure enough, my show hasn’t shown up in the iTunes desktop application nor on their website. However, it does show in the Overcast iOS app and in the Apple Podcast app.

I dug a little more and when logging into the iTunes Connect website, I noticed that there is an error showing up for my feed. The error is: Can’t parse your feed. Invalid XML: Error on line 2: The markup in the document following the root element must be well-formed.

I am using the Blubrry PowerPress app on my WordPress installation to manage the feeds. Currently using version 6.3.3 of that plugin. The feeds in question are as follows:

YES! Us too.

It looks like either WordPress or Blubrry is adding a blank line to the top of the RSS feed.

Usually this is an indication that a line is getting printed before WordPress outputs the site headers. It’s possible something was updated and left a blank space in a file outside of a <?php ?> tag.

I just checked https://www.castroyalepodcast.com/feed/podcast/, I do not see the issue.

I went to https://www.legendoftheinnkeeper.com/feed/podcast/ and see a different issue that has to do with session_start().

theatrefolk, can you reply with the URL to your podcast feed so I can take a look?

I solved my problem. It was an extra blank line outside a PHP tag in a theme file.

Also, what I see in this feed (https://www.castroyalepodcast.com/feed/podcast/) is also what I see on iTunes (https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/cast-royale-clash-royale-podcast/id1095051717?mt=2).

iTunes does not update instantly, they pull feeds on a frequency (from once a day to once every few hours). Officially iTunes documentation says it can take up to 24 hours for an episode to appear in the directory. Folks who are subscribed will get the latest episode when they go into the app (they are directly subscribed). Subscribers interact with your podcast feed directly, not through iTunes.
