Is it normal for each scan of a folder to be really long/slow? (the scan done when just selecting/clicking on a folder). It’s so long I end up clicking something else, and then the page goes dark, with an empty prompt window with an “OK” button. I then have to click that OK button two or three times for it to go away.

I’ve had so much trouble with this plugin recently. It worked flawlessly on another site on the same host. Now I keep having to sit there waiting forever and it keeps finding non-existant folders and file references. i de-activate the plugin, activate the reset one, reset the database and then even check the list and see that it’s cleared. But once I reactive the main plugin and go to it, it still has the old folders again.

I’m about to rip my hair out.

If you get an alert box, it means that you interrupted a process that was not yet finished.

Whey you click on a folder, Media Library Folders queries the database for the contents of the folders, gets each images’s URL and then display it on the page. the speed of your site and of you internet connect determine how fast images will load. You can optimize your database to speed up the loading process by using a plugin such as Advanced Database Cleaner.

It is best not to make changes to the folder structure outside of Media Library Folder. Since the folders name and location are stored in the database, remember, this is not a file manager like on your computer. What you see is the contents of the media library, which is a database, and not the physical contents on the server.

Please try deleting the folders through Media Library Folders. This will remove its record in the database. To do that (1) if any files are displayed in the non existent folder, try deleting them through Media Library Folder since the plugin does not allow you to delete folders that have files listed in them. If the files do not actually exists in that folder, then it will simply delete their records in the database. (2) To delete a folder Right click it (or CTRL click on a Mac) which will display a popup menu. Choose ‘Delete this folder?’. If the folder does not exist, it will probably still delete the folder record in the database.

Hi, I understand everything you wrote. Part of my problem was the very slow “hanging” time which looks like processing. I think I’ve narrowed this down to my browser, or it’s my ISP throttling my activity.

It’s definitely not my internet speed as I have on average 150 to 200 MBPS down (350 being the top possible) and 100 to 150 MBPS up. It should not be my web host either. Im on a mid-tier hosting plan with SiteGround, who specialize in WordPress hosting.

So, I’m switching to Chrome to see if there is any discernable difference.

I’ll also follow your database clean up tips.
