It's fantastic for 15 days only – then you have to purchase

  • It worked really well for me, compressed PDFs and saved me TONS of space BUT – once the 15 day trial was up it stopped working. In fact, this is just a trial version of a pay service that charges $7, $14 and $50 per month.

    Trialware is against the WordPress repository rules:

    5.Trialware is not allowed in the repository. It’s perfectly fine to attempt to upsell the user on other products and features, but a) not in an annoying manner and b) not by disabling functionality after some time period.

    This plug-in does EXACTLY that violating WordPress Plug-in directory rules.

    So, don’t waste your time – and expect either the developer to update this OR for this plug-in to disappear from the WordPress Plugin directory for not following the rules.

    The plugin connects to a web service to both store and serve the resulting images and such. Those images are not compressed locally, they are uploaded to that service.

    By our rules, that is allowed. Go back to those guidelines and look closely at Guideline number 6.

    By our definition, this is not trialware, just because they have a service that offers a free trial on the service. The plugin would be acceptable even without any free tier of service, as service-ware plugins are specifically allowed, even for non-free services. Since we would allow it for a totally paid service, then it makes no sense to disallow it simply because that service has a free trial period.

    Our trialware rule is intended to prevent plugins from disabling themselves in their own code, not to punish web services that offer temporarily usage of their services.

    Thanks for contacting us, for the rules reminder too, Samuel. This is the case of all the WordPress plugins that make an integration with a paid webservice that include a trial version.

    Regarding the commercial part, you can find some free plugin here that apply a compression on image (not on PDF). The existing free plugins include: an optimization done on your server that take a lot of resources, especially for PDF + usually a less advanced algorithm that compress around 10-15% the media.

    We’ve write in bold in the description: “Test full service for free during 15 days.” and I’m sorry if you feel disappointed.
