Hi, This has happened to me a few times with different websites recently and it has happened again over the past 24 hours so decided it is time to find out what on earth is happening.

I have had over 30 attempted logins by presumably a robot over the past 24 hours and ithemes Security has been emailing me constantly saying a lockout is occurring due to a bad login attempt, great so the plugin is doing its job.

BUT then suddenly the attempts stop but from then on every time I go to …/wp-login.php it just takes me back to the normal home page and won’t give me access to the wp login page.

I deleted the plugin and I could login again BUT every time I re-load the plugin it once again will not let me login and if I am already logged in it logs me out.

I have been into phpmyadmin and deleted all the itsec files so I thought I would be re-loading a completely clean version of the plugin but that does not work either so from this point onwards I cannot use themes security on the site.

This has happened to several of my sites recently and it is really frustrating.

Does anybody know what is going on here and what I can do to fix this situation so I CAN use themes security on my sites once agin?

Thank you for reading this and thank you in advance for any help.

  • The only plugin feature that will redirect to the home page when attempting to access the login page (within away mode hours) is the Away Mode module.

Other than that, this issue probably needs debugging as it happens on your site.

To prevent any confusion, I’m not iThemes.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I ran a malware scanner through the site today and it flagged up a plugin that I was using and which was fine up until 10th March 2020 when it was banned from the WP repository for guideline violations. Having removed this plugin it now allows me to load iThemes security once again!

    Hi Martin,

If you run into anything else that will not allow you to log in you can temporarily disable Security Pro’s features by adding the code below to your wp-config.php file above the “That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging.” comment. Note you’ll need to remove it to re-enable the features of Security Pro.

    define(‘ITSEC_DISABLE_MODULES’, true);

Please note that if adding this code does not resolve the issue then the Security Plugin will not be the culprit locking you out.

    Thanks!

    Matt

I am having the same issue.

I just updated woocommerce and woocommerce subscriptions, now I cant run ithemes, it wont let me log in, just redirect to home page

If i disable the plugin and reactivate it in admin, it logs me out and kicks me to home page.

    No PHP server errors

I also updated ithemes today, that is most likely the issue
