    Dear all,

I have successfully used iThemes security for some time. The last e-mail notification from the plugin was April. 7th. When I checked the WP control panel, the plugin was not visible under the Plugin tab in the sidebar. When trying to reinstall the plugin, the message “Install failed. The target folder already exists” (the translation may be inaccurate as I use WP in norwegian) appears.
What is the best way to get iThemes security to work again?

    Best regards, Lars Nygaard

  • Hi, did you try to delete the plugin folder in your database and reinstall it? I think it’s still in it and that’s why you are blocked in WP admin to reinstall the plugin.

    Thank you for answering!

No, I have not tried to just delete the folder. I know it’s there. Is it really that simple? Via ftp, go to plugin folder, delete Ithemes folder?

    Yes, it’s that simple.

Oh, it seems Directory Listing is enabled in your hosting env. This can lead to information leakage. It’s recommended to disable Directory Listing.

Anyway, this allowed me to have a look around in your better-wp-security folder … and that helped in determining you have an incomplete iTSec plugin install ?? Only the core subfolder exists …

+++++++++ To prevent any confusion, I’m not iThemes. +++++++++
