• I have been using iThemes Security and am very happy with it. I have also been using Lockdown to secure my login screen, ie to change it from https://www.x.x/wp-admin/ to something else. This has also worked fine.

Today I found out that I had the same functionality on iThemes that Lockdown offers, called Hide Backend.

So I deactivated and deleted the Lockdown plugin and tried to log in with the usual https://www.x.x/wp-admin/ and it worked fine. Next I turned on the Hide Backend in iThemes and changed the login from wp-admin to something else. I did use upper case characters as well as numbers and and an underscore, however I believe these are legal characters.

As you have probably guessed, after logging off I can now no longer get back in, The login screen does not appear I just get an ‘Oops! That page can’t be found’

How can I recover from this? I can still get to the site via FTP and guessing if I erase the iThemes pluging folder it will default back to the usual login.

    Any help very much appreciated.
    Tim

Hello Tim it’s me, future Tim.

What you need to do is FTP into the site and change the iThemes folder to something else, just add an underscore or something to the start.

Then you will be able to log in and the Security plugin will be unavailable. Then rename the folder back to original name via FTP and refresh the WordPress webpage. The Security option will re-appear, click on it and change the alternative login link.
I think the issue was that you used capital letters and it only works with lowercase. Dumbass!
