• Hi, Google Search Console detected issues on each of the testimonials in this rotator on this page saying, “Item does not support reviews”. I have inserted the Company name into the Name field in the rotator settings. Research suggests that Google thinks that these are self-serving however they are genuine testimonials given and reproduced using the Testimonial Rotator plugin.

    Any ideas?

    Hello all,

I’m receiving the same issue here on my website too.

I got an email from google search console telling me the exact same thing as mentioned by OP.

The reviews have all been pulled from the Google business page and they only appear on the homepage of my website.

Anyone know what’s going on? Could this be a bug?

    Thanks!

I got the same email and started doing some digging using googles rich results tester. https://search.google.com/test/rich-results? and looking at their documentation https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/review-snippet#review-properties
Looking at the above links it seems that the plugin code is not serving up the Microdata in accordance with the schema.org types.

It’s curious that everyone has got the email basically at the same time, maybe google have recently changed something to do with their rich snippets.

If you would like to just hide the errors until they are patched you can check the “Hide Microdata (hreview)” bock in the edit window of whatever rotators you have reviews on. It will however, stop google from finding your Rich results for testimonials. You can check that you have done this again using the tester https://search.google.com/test/rich-results which is quite handy. Then you can of course validate the fix in your search console.

    Hey there,
I received the same warning and I did some digging. The plugin is awesome but Google made some changes last fall regarding Review Rich Results. Long story short: Google is not going to display review rich results anymore for the schema types LocalBusiness and Organization (and their subtypes) in cases when the entity being reviewed controls the reviews themselves. Consider also the fact that RRR is quite limited (17 schema types).

    I’m getting the same

I also received the “New Review snippets issue detected for site” message from Google.
Is there a fix or a workaround ?

Thanks for the comments, any thoughts @halgatewood

    Following – same issue here.

    Following – same issue here.

Following also. Will wait to see if there’s a plug-in update before trying the flag @matthew423 suggested everywhere a rotator is displayed.

    Got “Unnamed item” warning too…

As it stands I think the suggestion made by @matthew423 is the only option as Google does not want to display any review of the business of the website if it has been put there by the webmaster, as this is considered self serving. As I understand it it is only the review itself which will not appear in any SERPS, it does not affect the page or the site itself. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    See this page https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2019/09/making-review-rich-results-more-helpful.html

Either way I still would appreciate the input of @halgatewood. the plugin developer, in this matter please.

Following. Same issue on my site. I would also appreciate the input of @halgatewood, the plugin developer.

Following as well. I have the same issue. I have a divi site and when I see in the snippet, it’s all direct me to this plugin. I have 35+ testimonials; 35 errors.
How can I fix this? Thankk you
