it works

I only gave this a 4 star rating because the instructions were very lacking I felt. Once I got it to work, it did the job very nicely. I did this working from my Mac but I’m sure the same will hold true no matter what you use. I’m sure someone will have a comment or two but this is what I did and it worked. I’m including this in my review so no one should have to waste much time figuring it out.

The above is exactly how the fields have to be laid out in Excel and the CSV file to import to WP. All of the fields with the exception of the date field will need double quotes i.e. “name”. All delimited by a comma. To do this in Excel, all the fields need to be hi-lited. Then go to Format -> Cells -> Custom. In the Type field enter \”@\” then click OK. All the fields now appear to have double quotes. Next do a Save As and select for Windows CSV file. The others won’t work!

For the next step open the saved CSV file in a text editor like Komodo Edit or Note Pad, etc… You’ll see there are 3 sets of quote marks around each field(“””name”””). Now go to Edit -> Replace or Find/Replace. Search for “”” and replace with “. All fields should now be delimited with only one set of double quotes i.e. “name” not “””name”””. Save the file.

In WP select Import Member, the CSV file, your options and then Register. When it completes click on All Users and they should be there. If you go into cPanel and phpAdmin, then select wp_users and the Browse tab, there they are. Also select wp-usermeta and Browse to further verify data.
