Good day to you. Upon Safari their exists an issue for video’s (mostly for background videos/autoplay) when service worker/PWA is registered and it’s a known issue discussed by most of PWA developer’s. Heard that iOS team will resolve this over their upcoming versions.

Yeah! I noticed this issue over some PWA related discussion forums last year, and to my knowledge, this issue is still existing upon all the Safari users who use Service Worker API.

Thanks for your information, that would be really a big issue.

However, I expect it could be improved someday.

Alternatively, it would be great if there is an option setting to disable the function for iOS device, is it possible?

By the way, I strongly suggest you post a notice of this issue on SPWA description to avoid troubles for user, since it is really difficult to track it and would much helpful for others to save tons of time.

FYI, in my case, not only background video, but also all of video posts, even play video at dashboard backend.

FYI, I tested other PWA plugins but not found this issue, it seems that this issue is only produced by this plugins.

I spent several weeks to resolve it including Whole server check, but I did not find the way to resolve it.

At last we reinstalled whole Multisite.

So, It would be much great if you can point what is the exact issue there, and the method how to resolve.

Is there any news on this issue?
As per my understanding the only way to make any video play in safari (both ios and desktop) is by disabling this plugin completely.

A partial solution would be maybe to add the possibilty to disable pwa for safari or maybe remove videos from service worker caching?

Is the issue caused by safari’s range request? (as described/solved here: https://philna.sh/blog/2018/10/23/service-workers-beware-safaris-range-request/)

I have the same issue. There really should be a prominent warning so users don’t waste their time.
