    Hello,

I just updated my Jetpack plugin from version 7.9 to 8.1.1, my WordPress update panel shows that the plugin updated successfully, but also shows a message that says there’s a fatal error on my site, and sent an automated email to me.

In the email, it says “WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Jetpack by WordPress.com”, and asks me to go to my site to see if there’s any visible error.

But I don’t see any errors on my site.

The email also tells me the Error Details:

“An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 270 of the file /home/my-cpanel-username/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/vendor/automattic/jetpack-sync/src/Listener.php. Error message: Uncaught Error: Class ‘Automattic\Jetpack\Roles’ not found in /home/thetovxm/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/vendor/automattic/jetpack-sync/src/Listener.php:270
    Stack Trace: …”

Looks not a vital error, but I’m not sure. So is this error really a fatal error? If it is, then what I need to do?

Please help me with this, thanks in advance!

    Hi –

I’ll be glad to take a closer look. What is the site URL?

If you’d rather share that URL privately then use this link to reach us:

    Hi there,

Do you see anything broken on your site itself, either the front end or the dashboard? If not, you don’t need to be concerned about this error.

In some cases, upgrading to Jetpack 8.0 (which applies in this case as you updated from 7.9) will cause an error like this.

This occurs because we moved some files around in this Jetpack release (which also carries over to subsequent releases, like 8.1.1 which you now installed), and so some of them are not in their usual locations. Your site should still have upgraded to Jetpack 8.1.1, which you’ve confirmed above.

As for the front end of the site, that should also work fine, though you may want to clear any caches you have just to be sure.

If you do spot anything broken, please let us know and we can take a look.

    Hi @kokkieh ,

No, I don’t see anything broken either on the front end or dashboard.

So I see, I don’t need to worry about that notification, it’s not really an error.

    Thanks for your help!

Well, it was an error, in the sense that WordPress was correct in notifying you that those files have been moved. But nothing is broken, so it’s not a serious error ??

    Glad I could help.
