It keeps duplicating the same posts

    Thanks for the great plugin. I installed it on a development site and ran it with a test Facebook page I set up and everything worked perfectly. Now I’m installing it on the live site and it won’t stop posting the same posts over and over again until the queue is full.

    I want new posts to go out as soon as possible, and two posts have been published in the last week that I also want to get auto-posted to Facebook. So I have the minimum age set to 0 and the maximum age set to 7.

    There are many other post categories on the site that are used for other things, but I have only checked off one category (the “Blog” category) on the Include Categories tab. These posts only go in the one category – they aren’t in multiple categories.

    The Number of Posts/Pages to Share is set to 1, and the Post Type is set to Posts Only.

    The two posts from the last week are successfully sent to Buffer and go into the scheduled slots and show up perfectly. But then a little while later they are added to the queue again, and then again and again until there are 10 posts in the queue, and then the log shows that Buffer is rejecting them (it’s a free account, queue limit is 10).

    I delete all the duplicates in Buffer, and they keep coming back. It’s not on Buffer’s end – I can change the message text and the new duplicates have the new text. If I “Pause HYPESocial – Buffer”, the posts stop duplicating in the Buffer queue.

    Looking through a bit of the code, I see you are keeping a list of post IDs that have been posted (hsb_opt_posted_posts), and I see the correct two posts’ IDs in an array in the database, but that’s not stopping them from getting posted.

    I don’t know what the problem could be. The development site I tested this on didn’t have this problem. Do I need to do something with those two posts so it will not keep sending them to Buffer? What could be causing this issue?

    Do you have more than these 2 blog posts in the “Blog” category that are not older than 7 days? From what I am understanding it looks like you only have published 2 blog posts in a week so that is the reason why only those 2 keeps going to Buffer. Just add more blog posts in this category or add more categories or change the maximum age to more days (14 or 30 or more).

    If I am mistaken and you have more blog posts that you have published in a week in the “Blog” category, would you be so kind to see if you have different plugins installed on your dev site than on your live site? Especially check the plugins with similar functionality as our plugin. If this is the case, would you be so kind to please deactivate those other plugins (one by one) and test the sending of the posts? Sometimes when there is more than one plugin with similar functionality the code might interfere looking like the other plugin is not working (or not working properly).

    Yes, there are only two blog posts that have been added in the past week. The problem is not that only those two posts are going to Buffer, it is that those two posts are going to Buffer over and over and over until the queue is full. They should only be sent to buffer once and then wait for a new post to show up.

    If I add another post or extend the maximum age, for instance let’s say I go back two weeks which would grab four posts (there are on average two posts per week) and I make a new post right now (making it five posts total), I believe it is going to post those five, and then post them again in a little bit (and then stop because it’s reached the limit of 10).

    The development site has many more plugins, but most of them are not active – it’s more of a playground where we can test and demo new features and plugins without affecting the live site. The development site has a few other plugins with similar functionality, but they are all disabled. The live site does not have any other plugins with similar functionality. I’ll spend some time tomorrow comparing the two and see what other differences there are and try to rule out other plugins causing the problem.

    Sorry for my late response and thank you so much for your detailed explanation.

    I believe I have a clear picture now of what you want.

    People are using our plugin as they want to recycle their posts over and over again, but from what I understand you only want your posts to be sent once and sort of at the time when they are published.

    To achieve this you can play around the hours in the “Choose the time between your posts (in hours)” box in the Intervals tab. For example, if you publish your posts every Tuesday and Thursday, you can put in the box 120. That means that every 5 days one post will be sent to Buffer, which will result in your new post to be sent and no posts will be repeated (if you continue to publish new posts every Tuesday and Thursday).

    Ah, I think I understand the purpose of this plugin now too. Thank you for the explanation.

    Well I don’t think this is the right fit for me. The posts are published a bit more sporadic – sometimes twice in a day, sometimes twice in a month. I also want them posted to Buffer.com as soon as possible, and I have a detailed schedule on Buffer.com so they go out quickly. I never want it to to re-post an old post either, although that might be a nice “on demand” feature.

    Also, I can probably explain the difference on the development server, there’s no traffic to trigger the cron jobs.

    I am not sure what your budget is but you may want to check our premium solution SociaL Web Suite https://socialwebsuite.com/. There you can set up a ton of things, such as Post on Publish, Schedule, Update actions. SociaL Web Suite is the only Social media platform that has deep integration with WordPress and it’s even more sophisticated than Buffer.
