• It does count the amount of downloads, but it only works with your downloads in the publicly accessible uploads directory. You can choose to secure this, but that doesn’t work. Once someone has the link to your file, it can be downloaded anytime, without this plugin counting anymore. So there is zero protection. When you move your downloads to another location outside the web root, the plugin cannot find your files anymore. So for me this plugin is a no-go. I will remove it and find something better.

Thank you for your 3 star review. We really appreciate this ??

The following addon should help you.

    Kind regards.

@mbrsolution will the above plugin also prevent the file from being accessed from within the media folder? ie will this not be directly accessible anymore once added as a download:

Hi @greatwitenorth, the physical path of the file is hidden and not revealed. So unless they find out the physical path of the file then it is safe to say that the file is protected. Does this answer your question?

    Kind regards.

The problem is that when someone SHARES the link, the download is accessible to everyone who clicks that link. I tried to set that downloads are only accessible for logged in users. But that is also not working. So I might as well publish all my protected downloads on the homepage for everyone to download. It’s easier and offers the same protection: none.

Because this ‘logged in protection’ is also not working, I changed my review from 3 to 2 stars.

Having that said, the only added value this plugin offers is that it counts the # of downloads sometimes.

@mike2972, have you tried the addon I mentioned above?

    Kind regards.

I have not tried that addon, because it costs $39,95 and I’m not so sure if it will work. The thing is that some functions in the “Main” plugin don’t work either. (Like the need to be logged in to do be able to download).

So why should I BUY a plugin for 40 dollars to improve security if a basic security functionality in the “main” plugin isn’t even working in the first place?

And besides that, if it works, which I’m not sure of, for me 40 dollars is very much over priced for the value you get.
