• Folks – I think I’m going mad! I’ve been in tech melt down for the last 4 days when I decided to re-do an old website (https://www.gwenrhys.com) (written in Front Page!!!) on WP with Genesis Framework.

I administer 3 other WP/Genesis sites – all working very well (until today!).

After multiple instals and uninstals and re-instals on the new website I got WP to work. Then I uploaded Genesis Framework and Theme. But nothing worked properly. Deleted everything started again. Installed the Design Palette Pro (great Plugin) also started to get to grips with all the new JetPack stuff. Was using this small site as a learning experience.

Finally got stuff to work. All was going well until I realised that I can’t upload images (get error message saying they’ve not uploaded, but in fact they do!) and I absolutely CANNOT get them to insert into a page or post.

I can add as a featured image, although you don’t see the image on the right hand side of the post/page in the admin screen.

I wasn’t too worried and have sent support tickets to all manner of places but NOW I am seriously worried because all my sites have this image upload and insert problem and this is a real concern as my main site (https://www.citywomen.co.uk)is an income generator for my business.

So – what is causing this. Is it JetPack? I have been installing so much stuff over the last 3-4 days that identifying the issue is difficult.

And now – suddenly JetPack has jumped into action to manage all my sites https://wordpress.com/plugins/www.citywomen.co.uk and tells me I have no pages at all. So what’s all that about?

    Very frustrated and extremely worried.

  • Gwen,

Have you tried disabling Jetpack? Also, have you checked your PHP.ini settings, to make sure they’re up to snuff with regard to the memory settings?

For help with JetPack, best to post on their forum – if you’ve already posted there or sent them support requests via their other channels, they WILL get back to you. But they were on vacation until today so have a lot of support requests to deal with.

In the meantime, have you tried deactivating JetPack to see if that resolves the issues?

    Augustin56 and WPyogi

I’m coming round to the disabling/deactivating JetPack or maybe I need to re-install JetPack.

I think I have posted on JetPack!!!

No, I’ve not looked at the PHP.ini settings and to be honest wouldn’t know if they’re up to snuff with regard to the memory settings? Can you elaborate? No rush!

It’s 21.55 where I am and I’m about to call it a day!

WPyogi, thanks for advice on threads (again). I find posting very confusing.

An easy way to assure you have enough memory allocated is to edit your wp-config.php file and add the following line:

    define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’);

Hey! Finally, I scrolled down to the bottom of the Jetpack page and pressed Debug. Got a whole heap of error messages so will contact Jetpack on that.

I know it’s VERY frustrating to have these kinds of problems – and unfortunately, it can be somewhat tedious to try to find the cause(s) – because there are any number of variables that can be involved – a few could be:

    JetPack
    Other plugins
    Conflicts between plugins
    JetPack related server problems
    Theme-related problems
    Host/server problems

So basically, it’s a process of elimination to try to narrow down the cause. IF these problems started happening when you installed JetPack, that’s a good place to start – deactivate and delete it. Then see if your site(s) work okay. If not, start deactivating other plugins. See if that helps.

And yes, I see you have posted a few times on JetPack’s forum — they are very good with support so I’m sure they will reply to your posts as soon as they get through the queue ahead of you.

Sleep is always good too :). Come back when you’ve had some rest and are ready to take another run at it.

    I know WPyogi!!!!

Trouble is, I run a business – doing the website is something I enjoy, almost recreation. I think the problems started when I started to use the advanced features of Jetpack. When I stuck to using it for stats only all was well.

I got excited with experimenting on my new site and started activating stuff on the other sites, too, so it’s a bit of a mess all round.

I’m in business meetings all day tomorrow so I’ll have to let it all rest. That might help, too!!!!!
