issues with slugs in subdirectories

I have two main pages – “widgets” and “gubbins”.

Under each I have several sub pages, e.g.:

gubbins->easy
gubbing->hard
widgets->kids
widgets->adults
widgets->indoor

I want to create a new sub page under widgets called “easy” like this:

widgets->easy

However, because the slug “easy” has already been used (even though as a sub page of gubbins) it keeps renaming my slug.

So instead of

widgets->easy

I get

widgets->easy-2

How do I fix this?
