I love Photoswipe 5, but my favorite gallery, Meow Gallery, just updated to version 5.0. They said there is some incompatibility that is difficult to fix and links in the gallery no longer open with Photoswipe lightbox. I was wondering if you could get up with the developer and see if there was a way to make the two plugins compatible again. Thanks!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Please see the demonstration and my explanation here:

If Meow wants to support Lightbox with PhotoSwipe, they can contact me. I already have some technical solution in mind – however my motivation to spend a lot of my free time on this is limited since Meow also sells “Pro” licenses for their products and have paid developers for this. However my plugin is for free and I maintain this beside my main job.

Also contributions on GitHub are always welcome: https://github.com/arnowelzel/lightbox-photoswipe

Yes I’ve already cancelled my pro membership for Meow Gallery I’m quite upset they broke the plugin compatibility without warning. Also, generating a gallery with JavaScript seems not SEO friendly, but I don’t really know I haven’t looked into it in detail. I would use their Lightbox, but it truly is awful on iOS compared to Photoswipe. I will go back to just a standard WordPress gallery vs their plugin. The question is, why don’t you charge for your Lightbox? I’ve tried them all and yours is the best, I would pay for a pro version.

Sorry to have to ask for support about this, but I’ve removed meow gallery and went back to a standard wordpress gallery shortcode with some custom css. I just can not figure out why I can’t get the Lightbox to work now on my default galleries. Everything looks correct but the Lightbox is just not attaching to the image links. You can see an example here https://www.ryansmithphotography.com/wedding-gallery/

Sorry I resolved the question above, there was an issue with my function that set default gallery shortcode parameters, it wasn’t doing link=”file” correctly.

To answer the question why I do not provide a paid “pro” version or similar:

First of all, the PhotoSwipe library itself is open source and mostly the work of Dmytro Semenov (see https://photoswipe.com) who created a complete new code basis for PhotoSwipe 5. That fixed a lot of problems with newer devices and iOS in particular and introduced a new modular design which made it much easier to create a fullscreen plugin for it and other features.

Furthermore I already have a fulltime job in a big company and only use my free time to work on the WordPress plugins. That’s the reason why they are all open source as well. If I don’t have the time to provide a bugfix or new feature anyone is welcome to contribute code.

And finally offering paid versions would also mean a obligation to fulfill customer needs. Yes, I do care about the plugins anyway since I use them myself as well in a number of projects – but it’s a difference if someone expects something because he paid for it or if a software offered for free.

Meow Gallery was updated to fix this. It will now create HTML code on the server side again, so Lightbox with PhotoSwipe works again without any changes as it can “see” the image links again.
