Hi, I’ve tried to get the admin menu item “Students” translated into French (étudiants) but it remains visible as “Students”. I’ve noticed the same issue with the menu item “Reports”…

Also, translation strings like “Add Student to %1$s” pose problems for languages that (still) use gender.

For example “Add Students to Course” would be “Ajouter des étudiants au cours” while “Add Students to Lesson” should be “Ajouter des étudiants à la le?on”. Both cannot be satisfied with one string…

Also, the text “Please enter 3 or more characters” does not appear to be present in the .po file at all…

    Hi @ravanh

I see that you are bumping into translation issues.

As you can see in WordPress Translate for Sensei LMS plugin the French language hasn’t been translated 100%. Right now there are at 43% and when I search for the words Students or Reports, both are waiting for approval.

Please note that we have no control over www.remarpro.com translation team. However, you can contribute to their work by following their Translator Handbook.

Have you tried another plugin to help you with translations? For example, have you tried Loco Translate?

Hi Alba, thanks for responding ??

As you can see in WordPress Translate for Sensei LMS plugin the French language hasn’t been translated 100%.

Yes, that is why we are directly editing our local .po/mo files with Poedit. Most strings can be translated just fine this way, but strings not. See my previous posts for which strings seem to be impossible to translate…

I’ve thought about asking to become a translation editor but I hesitate because French is not my native language. Plus, I’d still not be able to fix the translation issue that involves the gender problem described earlier. For that, a pull request on Github would be needed…

We’ve been using WPT Custom Mo File to quickly upload and test each new MO file version but I’ll give Loco Translate a try if you think that works better ??

Quick update: Loco Translate does indeed seem to work better. It noticed both missing and redundant strings in our PO (which we downloaded from WordPress Translate so that surprises me) and allowed us to sync. Now the Students and Reports menu items appear translated. Thanks for the tip @ctdealba !

I’ll reconsider applying for TE ??

    Hi @ravanh

I’m very glad to hear that my suggestion has been helpful. There are other translation plugins but I feel Loco Translate is a good fit for Sensei.

Regarding your concern about French not being your native language. I believe that is not a problem since you can always volunteer to help translate and the words or strings you suggest will always be reviewed by a native speaker. ??

Plus, I’d still not be able to fix the translation issue that involves the gender problem described earlier. For that, a pull request on Github would be needed…

If you don’t know yet, GlotPress is the open-source engine that powers translate.www.remarpro.com – the translation platform of WordPress and related projects. I believe you can share your concern in their blog or upload the feature request in their GitHub repository:

    Hope this helps!
