I recently had an issue with a client site where all of sudden the Basic User Avatar upload field was not allowing files to be uploaded (no error message). They could be deleted, but not added from front end field. Could still be added as admin in editing user profile.

Through disabling/enabling plugins to find the conflict I found that Yoast SEO was the culprit. Not exactly sure the specific issue after trying to disable various settings on Yoast.

Because I didn’t want to lose Yoast or Basic User Avatar upload field, I found if I disabled Yoast on the page I had the upload field [basic-user-avatars] it worked again. Using this bit of code I was able to resolve the issue.

Hope it helps another. Or Stranger Studios can identify the issue. It’s a problem at least as of Yoast v20.8 and is still an issue with v20.13.

  • Hi @jberg1

Thank you for your feedback on this.

I’ve tested with Basic User Avatars 1.0.7 and Yoast 20.13 however I haven’t been able to replicate the issue you are experiencing.

Do you get any visible errors on the page when this happens?

Would you mind checking the console log for any errors? If any, please post them in a screenshot here so that we can take a further look?

Console log can be opened by right clicking on the page containing the avatar, clicking Inspect and then on Console (may vary from browser and OS).

Hey Jarryd, Thanks for the response.

Interesting. Maybe it is a combination of the plugin with the theme (Aardvark). Disabling Yoast was the only fix I found. Which does seem weird because Yoast is really only placing header information.

I don’t see any Console errors, or PHP Errors when it fails. I do see one ModSecurity error message on cPanel, but this shows even when it is working correctly. [security2:error] [pid 2396777:tid 22869454993152] [remote ] [client ] ModSecurity: Warning. Match of "rx ^$" against "FILES_TMPNAMES:basic-user-avatar" required. [file "/etc/apache2/conf.d/modsec_vendor_configs/imunify360-full-apache/000_i360_0.conf"] [line "112"] [severity "NOTICE"]

Oh well, glad to have it working. I guess I was the only one with this issue. ??
    Thanks again. Great plugin.
