I set up a free 3-month trial membership level in accordance with what we had seen online.

    Settings:
    Initial Payment: £0
    Recurring Subscription: Yes
Billing Amount: £22 per 1 month
    Custom Trial: Checked
Trial Billing Amount: £0 for the first 3 subscription payments

However, a member who subscribed on 15/11/21 has not been billed for the first £22 on 15/2/22.

On examining their one and only invoice in Stripe (set when they took out the membership), it has the description NOV 15, 2021 – MAR 16, 2022, suggesting a trial period of 4 months?

    Why is this?

I say suggesting a 4-month trial, as I am yet to see what happens on 15/3/22

    Hi @alexpetrie

Thank you for reaching out to Paid Memberships Pro.

The trial feature counts towards the recurring amount/billing cycles only and doesn’t take into consideration the £0 at checkout as a subscription payment.

Ideally you would want to change it to 2 billing periods to charge the user on the third subscription and not after the third subscription.

For example here is how it would count towards the subscription payment:

    15/11/21 – 14/12/21 – Doesn’t count.
    15/12/21 – 1
    15/01/22 – 2
    15/02/22 – 3
15/03/22 – Start charging the customer again.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Hi,

that’s what I had surmised from my research, but both of these links do not make that clear:

    https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/trial-memberships/

    https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/step-by-step-guides/videos/webinars/membership-trial-periods-all-you-need-to-know-recorded-jan-24-2020/

Indeed the first link details setting up a 30-day trial by doing exactly what I did but setting the trial amount to 0 for the first 1 subscription payments. So that would suggest that I’d get what I needed by changing the 1 to a 3 (not a 2 as you suggest)

Can the plugin help at all, in terms of invoicing the missed payments?

Can anything be done with regards to those members who haven’t passed three months yet, for example by changing the trial period?

    Thanks,
    Alex

Currently we don’t have a solution to re-charge any missed payments as we solely rely on the gateway to process the subscription and send data to your site to track these payments.

I recommend keeping these user’s as is and grandfather them in. The only way would be to ask customer’s to checkout again for the same membership level.
