Issue with redirects from email subscription links

    Hi Robin!

    I’m having the following issue:

    When a user clicks a link to a forum comment that they receive in an email, and they are not logged in, it is taking them to our designated login page:

    But, after that, they go to the landing page they would normally be taken to after a regular login (i.e. not from a bbpress email).

    In order to resolve this, I have to disable this in the WishList plugin:

    But doing that creates a major problem with all of the other redirects that WishList does. I spent several hours with their team today. They said to please reach out to you to see if there’s a fix so that Wishlist can handle all other redirects outside of the ones from the bbStylepack Email Subscription links.

    From Wishlist: Our lead developer suggests that you contact BBP style pack support with regards to this issue as it seems that the redirection for the emails are handled by their plugin but it seems to be conflicting with WishList Member’s functions that handle After Login Redirects which is why it doesn’t work.

    hmmm… redirects will depend on what priority is set. From you thread it is hard to understand what the issue is. Can you state specifically when and where you are being redirected. I am on holiday at the moment, and there is a list of threads that are before yours, so when I am back after the middle of July I will have a look

    Additional observation: the issue does not affect keymasters. When keymasters click on the link and login, it directs them to the intended URL. It is subscribers that are affected with being routed to the after login page instead of the intended URL.

    ok , subscriber is a WordPress role – can you confirm it is just bbpress roles and not WordPress, so can you try a test user with WordPress administrator and bbpress participant

    ok, I’ve at last taken a look.

    Obviously I cannot look at wishlist code as this is a paid plugin (nor have the time to), but the screenshot you sent me that says it will override other plugins login redirects and this seems correct from what you are saying.

    Given this, I have no idea what Wishlist think I can do with my plugin to correct that!!

    Is the wishlist redirect just to one page?

    Hi Robin, thank you so much for looking into this. I checked with Wishlist, and they replied:

    “After discussing this issue with our dev team, our lead developer mentions that he will be checking into this further. Since the bbPress Style Pack Plugin is free, he’ll go ahead and review the code which causes the conflict and see if it is something that we could create a fix on our end.

    If the issue could only be fixed in bbPress Style Pack Plugin’s end, he said that we will suggest a fix to their plugin developer by contacting them through the forum link you’ve sent in your previous message.

    We’ll get back to you as soon as we have an update.”

    Hi Robin — good news, this is fixed on the WishList end. From them:

    “As for the bbPress plugin devs, all the changes for the fix were added in our code as compatibility updates so there’s no need to add additional changes from their end. All should be good from their end.”
