• I installed a map plugin on my website and connected it to Google Maps. I’ve encountered an issue where the city “Modi’in Illit” is not recognized correctly. When I type “Modi’in Illit” in the search box, the auto-complete feature does not find the location. Additionally, when users enable location permissions, the location is not detected correctly.

Interestingly, if I type “Modi’in Ilit” (with a single ‘i’ instead of double ‘i’), the location is found without any issues.

It seems there is a problem with the correct name of the city in Google Maps through the plugin. Is there a way to resolve this issue so that both the auto-complete and location detection features recognize the correct name “Modi’in Illit”? Any help or suggestions for a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much in advance!

  • Hi there, thanks for reaching out.

I installed a map plugin on my website and connected it to Google Maps.

I assume you are talking about Wp Store Locator, right?

Well, the plugin allows you to search for locations or postcodes, but ultimately the searches you make are sent to Google Maps. If a certain search is not behaving as expected, you can examine the raw API call and response to debug the issue with Google. In the Wp Store Locator settings page, near the end, there is this button labeled “Input location details”. It will open a pop-up window where you can try your searches directly against Google Maps, and examine the output.

Please try your conflictive search there (see screenshot) and let us know if that clarifies anything.

Also, if your store locations are all in India, you can make the geocoder work better by restricting it to just one country in the plugin settings page (see screenshot).

    Best regards,
