Revisions plugin appears to have some issue with both Gutenberg page editor and WPBakery Pagebuilder plugin.

In both cases, I’m also utilizing PublishPress’ Permissions plugin to manage ‘groups’

The overview is that revisions are not being submitted if Gutenberg page editor is enabled for published pages by other authors. And within WPBakery Page Builder, individual objects on the page cannot be edited, even though the page is loaded into the WPBakery page editor.

If WPBakery is disabled, and the ‘Classic editor’ plugin is installed/enabled, then revisions+permissions appears to work properly.

    The setup:
I have a group built (‘Dept A’) in the Permissions plugin that has ‘revise’ ‘enabled’ on a subset of pages on the site.
Two or more users are members of ‘Dept A’ group, user1 and user2.
These users also have the default role of ‘Contributor’ applied.

The goal being that all non-admin users are ‘contributors’ to the site, but these users are then grouped to only be able to view/edit/manage subsets of pages, using the Permissions Group.

But what happens at this point is if user2 attempts to revise user1’s published pages, user2 runs into errors in WPBakery or can never submit a revision with Gutenberg editor enabled.

The only method of overcoming this is to enable ‘edit_others’ capability for all ‘contributors’ – but this is overkill and defeats the purpose of limiting by permission groups.

I will say this was all functioning as expected prior to WP 5.8, so that may also be a factor.

All plugins are up-to-date as of Sept 3, 2021

    Hi @kcorrea

    Thanks for using PublishPress Revisions.

On the plugin description here, it says this:

“The Free version of PublishPress Revisions supports the WordPress core. The Pro version of PublishPress Revisions supports ACF, Yoast SEO, PODS, WooCommerce, WPML, Elementor, Beaver Builder, and many more plugins and themes.”

You will need the Pro version for WPBakery support.

That’s unfortunate, as the free version previously worked with WPBakery Page Builder.

And so the free version also excludes the new Gutenberg page editor? As I’m having problems with that as well.

    Hi @kcorrea

If the previous free version worked with WPBakery, that’s great. But those pagebuilders can be super-complex to support so they are officially Pro-only.

The Free version does support Gutenberg: “The Free version of PublishPress Revisions supports the WordPress core.”

Of course, I fully understand the complexity of page builders.

It’s also why I’m looking to ditch WPBakery entirely… but with the problem I described when using the Gutenberg editor, it won’t matter, as I still am unable to have users creation revisions for other’s pages as it stands now.
