    Hello Give WP Team,

I hope this message finds you well. We’ve encountered a significant challenge while attempting to reconnect to PayPal, and we’re seeking assistance in resolving this matter.

    Error Message:
    “Connect With PayPal
There was an issue retrieving a link to connect to PayPal. Please try again. If the issue continues please contact an administrator.”

We are facing difficulty understanding the nature of the error – its type, reasons, and when and how it occurs. Unfortunately, the plugin doesn’t provide a detailed explanation, leading to a frustrating user experience.

Typically, log files are instrumental in troubleshooting such issues, but it seems the plugin doesn’t follow this convention. We would appreciate guidance on how to address this bug, emphasizing that it’s unrelated to test mode.

    Background:
We have successfully used the Give WP plugin for the past couple of months without any issues. However, after recently redesigning our site, including a fresh installation of WordPress and the implementation of the Give WP donation plugin, we started encountering the aforementioned errors.

Despite these efforts, the problem persists. We kindly request your assistance in identifying and resolving this issue, considering our commitment to using your plugin successfully.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. We look forward to your guidance on rectifying the PayPal reconnection problem.

    Best regards,

  • Hi @shujon24,

I am glad you reached out. I do understand your frustration. There’s a wide variety of reasons why you might be unable to get PayPal Donations connected correctly. Some of those reasons we can solve and some are things that PayPal needs to solve, but I’m here to help you as completely as I possibly can.

The first thing you should do is confirm that you do not have GiveWP in “Test Mode.” If GiveWP is in test mode, it will attempt to connect PayPal Donations to the PayPal sandbox instead of your live PayPal account. In live mode, GiveWP connects to your live PayPal account. You can disable test mode by going to Donations > Settings > Payment Gateways.

If you still have trouble connecting to PayPal, it’s possible something is cached in your browser. Some GiveWP users have had success by logging into their WordPress site in an incognito window and then connecting to PayPal there. After you make the connection incognito, you should be fine moving forward.

If neither of those two things gets you connected, then most likely there’s an issue with your PayPal account and we want to get you connected with PayPal directly to resolve it. We created this intake form to give you more details about this problem and for you to get in touch with PayPal directly. Please make sure you complete the form as completely as possible: https://givewp.com/paypal-onboarding-reports/

The form on that page sends an email directly to PayPal, to a team that we have been told is aware of any issues, and can walk you through connecting. We’re here to help as much as we can, but ultimately they’ll have to help if none of the steps above resolve things.

As a last resort, if all else fails, I’d recommend using a different payment gateway, if possible. My personal favorite is Stripe.

    Hi, @shujon24.

We updated the connection process to PayPal. Can you test it again and let us know how it goes?

Looking forward to helping you get to the bottom of this!

I have the same problem, with the same error message. I have tried clearing up the cache. The problem does not come from the paypal account, since the error message occurs before I could even provide my account details. The error message happens when I click on “Connect with Paypal Live” or “Connect with Paypal Sandbox”

After investigation, this seems to be due to our account being based in Switzerland. If I switch to the United States, it works. However, then donations don’t work since our paypal non-profit account is based in Switzerland

    Hello,
Is this bug going to be fixed?
