Issue with Network Update – and can't access dashboards of user sites

I just updated my multi-site main blog – and have tried to do a network update but 16 updates go through successfully (or appear to go successfully) and then I get the following error:
Warning! Problem updating https://students.rhysthomasinstitute.com/cindy. Your server may not be able to connect to sites running on it. Error message: Maximum (5) redirects followed
The wordpress install is on students.rhysthomasinstitute.com/
then the user sites are in sub-directories.Everything was working perfectly fine before the upgrade to 3.2 I believe —
AND, to complicate things …. NONE of the user sites dashboards are accessible!!!! Not even for the sites that appeared to have been updated successfully.

My CalendarI have deactivated ALL of those plug-ins but STILL cannot do a network update.
I’m seriously stumped and need to get this working for the users — hopefully, they won’t need their sites for a little while, but I’d like to get this figured out sooner than later.
