Issue with hashtag link for tags with spaces in name (not slug)

  • Hi There,
    We are using this plugin (and loving it apart from this one detail) on a site to tag posts for meeting minutes.

    The tagging works great, however tags with multiple words are not creating hyperlinks from the hashtag.

    Ex: Tag Name = “Code Red” Tag Slug = “codered” Hashtag= “#codered” this hashtag will properly tag the post but will not hyperlink the hashtag. We do need to keep “Code Red” with the two separate words for the tag Name due to another function on the site.

    Is this an issue that has been brought up before? Are there any known workarounds or is this something being considered for future updates?

    Hi Sara,

    the plugin was designed to use already existing tags. If a tag does not exist, it is created. The plugin uses the tag name, not the slug, to achieve the desired compatibility with the WordPress tag system. Tag name and slug can be different – as in your case. This does not only apply to spaces but also to common characters in some languages – such as German umlauts.

    For this reason, a general check on the slug does not make sense and thus the desired functionality would no longer be possible.

    I think that it should be possible to add an additional test, which before creating a new tag also checks the slug if the tag name does not exist. In any case that would be offered as an option, because it could have unwanted side effects. In addition, the loading time of the page could increase slightly.

    I have not checked if this is possible yet. But do you think that such a change would solve your problem?

    If it is possible i do believe that the solution you have outlined will “fix” what we are experiencing. Please do keep me updated if this is a possibility ??
