    Hi,

    When I tried to add Analytics to my site in the Site Kit, the following error is produced.
    “Error: We’ve detected there’s already an existing Analytics tag on your site (ID UA-****90717-1), but your account doesn’t seem to have access to this Analytics property. You can either remove the existing tag and connect to a different account, or request access to this property from your team.”

    I went though the previous threads related to the same problem and found the following code in my homepage.
    <!– Global site tag (gtag.js) – Google Analytics –>
    <script async src=”https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-****90717-1″></script&gt;
    <script>
    window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
    function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
    gtag(‘js’, new Date());

    gtag(‘config’, ‘UA-****90717-1’);
    </script>

    In Google Analytics my measurement ID is totally different. How do I rectify the issue ?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for reaching out. Hopefully we’ll be able to assist. Nice troubleshooting in locating the source of the snippet. This snippet may have been planed into your theme files directly, or alternatively placed via a plugin feature or theme configuration. You’ll need to remove this existing snippet or get access from a Google account which has access to this associated property.

    If you’d like to share your Site Health information privately using this form we can inspect your current setup check if we can help identify the placement.

    Many thanks for sharing your Site Health information. From looking at the details provided I noticed the following plugins:

    • Code Snippets
    • Head, Footer and Post Injections:

    Can you check those plugins for the placement of the UA-****90717-1 Analytics property snippet? If you remove that snippet you should be then able to setup the Analytics module with your preferred Analytics property.

    Hi James,

    Thank you for the response.

    I had a look at both of them. But I couldn’t find anything related to that code. Frankly Code Snippets is not used at all. Head, Footer and Post Injections only has Facebook pixel installed.
    I deactivated both but still the error is reported in Analytics.

    Any idea ?

    Regards,

    Thanks for the update. In that case I suspect it’s another plugin or possibly your theme files or configuration that host the existing Analytics tracking code. Below you’ll find a troubleshooting guide to try and determine the cause.

    1. Ensure logged in users are counted in your Analytics metrics. You’ll find the settings under “Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Analytics > Edit”.
    2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”. (This will temporarily deactivate other plugins and switch to a default theme – for you only, as a logged in user).
    4. Search your sites source code, I suspect you won’t find any Analytics snippet placed
    5. Back in troubleshooting mode click on the “Enable” option next to any additional plugin one at a time, before then visiting your sites source code once more and checking does the snippet remain (each time). You’ll also need to refresh the source code screen each time.
    6. If you’re able to locate snippet in your source code you’ll know which plugin if any has placed this snippet. If you’re unable to determine a plugin is responsible continue below to check your theme.
    7. Back in troubleshooting mode select a different theme, the theme normally activated on your site.
    8. Search the source code once mode (Please refresh the page before checking)
    9. If the snippet appears that means the Analytics tracking snippet is placed in your theme files directly or alternatively a theme configuration.

    Let me know if you have any questions on the above. If you’re unsure how to check your sites source code you can type the below URL in your address bar, replacing the mysite.com with your own site:

    Hi James,

    I’m very new to WP and it was really awesome to learn all these.

    The issue is with the Astra theme. Please let me know the follow up steps.

    Thank you very much for the assistance.

    Nice troubleshooting! In that case did you checkout the Astra theme files, or if you’re using the Astra pro theme there may be options to insert snippets.

    I noticed you’re using Astra pro, so you may find the snippet by following this guide:
    https://wpastra.com/docs/how-to-add-google-analytics-code-with-custom-layouts-module/

    If the snippet isn’t contained above you can inspect the theme files by navigating to “Appearance > Theme Editor”. On the right hand side you’ll find all the Astra files. If the snippet is inserted in your theme files it may have been manually placed previously into your header.php file.

    Let me know how you get on.
