What I have tried is to add a long list of temporarily/fake e-mail domains to the “Contact us” form I have created by adding it to the Fields/advanced/Denylist. Obviously I am trying to prevent use of such emails to be used for contacting me in my form.

This is the example of how the list looks like (there is a coma after each as suggested in the tooltip):

    • *@safetymail.info,
    • *@safetypost.de,
    • *@saharanightstempe.com,
    • *@salmeow.tk,
    • *@samsclass.info,
    • *@sandcars.net,
    • *@sandelf.de,
    • *@sandwhichvideo.com,
    • *@sanfinder.com,

There is a total of 3752 domains at the moment.

However, when I click save form for the first time I am getting an popup error. After closing it and clicking save form again, form is saved.

Now the issue is that such saved form stops accepting all e-mail domains. I have manually checked for gmail, yahoo, or hotmail dot com. None of those is acceptable so obviously there is some kind of error/issue with saved form that contains this list.

My questions are if there is limit in how many e-mail domains we can add to “Denylist” and of course how to do it so the form works properly with the e-mail domains which are not on the denylist.

    Thank you.

  • Hey @justaniceguy – Thanks for contacting us!

We don’t set a limit on the number of domains that can be added to the allow or deny list. Having said that, in case you’ve noticed an error message, you might want to check with your hosting provider as there might be some limit set by the hosting.

Please let me know how the conversation goes!

I got WPform popup with error message when trying to save twice, not the console error or such. In practice, had to click “save” twice in order to save form. I have just tried again having console opened. Form was saved after the first “save” click this time not throwing “saving error pop up message”. Beside that, there were no errors in the console (I have made a screenshot if necessary).

Furthermore, I just tried to add only one domain to denylist and save the form ( *@0-mail.com was added to denylist). Having only 1 domain on a denylist form works properly on a live site (it accepts all e-mail domains except that one). Obviously, there is an limit in how many domains can be added to denylist which was my first thought.

After that I have tried to add 100 e-mail domains to deny list and it also does work on live site. However, adding 3700+ e-mail domains to deny list form stops accepting any/all e-mail domains.

I still don’t see how this can be related with my hosting.

Hey @justaniceguy – Thanks for following on this ticket!

When you have some time, can you please check the max_input_vars setting that is configured on your server? You can try increasing this up to about 4000 and see if it helps.

    Thank you for your hint.

There was a limit of 2000 which I have changed into 4000. However, this does not resolve the issue. Form does not accept any mail domain at all. I have cleared deny list so the form works properly until we try the next solution.

Beside, I am using the same e-mail domains list to block new members registrations on my site using them. Ultimate membership plugin was using this list without issues even while the max_input_vars was set to 2000.

Kindly waiting for a next suggestion on how to resolve this. Thank you.

Hey @justaniceguy – Thanks for following on this ticket!

We did some testing on our end to replicate the issue, however, we’re unable to reproduce the issue with 4000 email domains. When you have sometime, can you please share a screencast or screenshot of the browser console from the page when you try to save the list on your end?

    Please let me know!

Sure. Here there are 2 screenshots. First one with “error” pop up message after first “save” click and 2nd where form is saved on second click at “save” button.

I believe notification above are not related with WP form and there are no errors in console when trying to save form. Also, as far as I understand I am not blocking admin-ajax.php .

Yet, you may correct me if I am wrong.

If it helps here is the link to contact form at live site. https://camlessons.net/contact-us/

Since it is saved with deny list it does not accept any mail at all. Maybe it will help to figure out what is causing the issue. Hopefully you will check it quickly since now I can not receive contacts as long as I don’t clear deny list.

Hey @justaniceguy – Thanks for your intrest in this ticket and for sharing the screenshots.

Looking at the screenshot, and as you also mentioned I don’t see any error message that would give us a clue. When you get a chance, can you please share the export copy of the form with the complete list of the email domains that you’ve entered in the deny list as that will help us to see if we’re able to replicate the issue?

Hi @justaniceguy – the bug issue has been reported and we will report back to you once the issue is resolved.

    Thanks,

    (@justaniceguy)

I have installed latest 1.8.0.1 plugin version (since changelog says there were some handling updates of approve/denylist). However, long denylist still does not accept gmail meaning that issue is still present.

Hi @justaniceguy – I just checked this and unfortunately, the bug has not been resolved.

As this is an edge case, we do not have a specific ETA on the bug fix for this one. However, I will still keep a track of this one and keep you posted.

    Thank you for understanding.
