is_admin() filters ajax requests

    Hm, that seems like something that would be generally useful. I could add that check to fix your problem, but that would cause ajax searches to be counted even from admin pages. I can live with that — it’s probably an unusual situation.

    Perhaps if we’re doing ajax then we should check the referrer URL, not the current URL. I will add that to my to-investigate list.

    This is in version 2.12, out now. I’m not doing the referrer check, because that will require more testing than I have time for now. The current solution should suffice.
