• I can’t help but wonder if we should be concerned about the website platform being WordPress.

Our website has it’s own url and hosting (I think) etc but the website is using WordPress as it’s platform. If WordPress disappeared tomorrow, would we lose the site? I have a backup program but it is all within WordPress.

I would feel better (for security, ownership etc) if the site could be ported to another platform. Is that easily done? Would I be able to easily edit the site still (or would I be screwed because I don’t know coding lol)

  • WordPress is running on about 25% of all websites that are indexed, according to the link below.

I wouldn’t be worried about WP not being around, it’s been around for a very, very long time. You can always choose to backup all of your data in case you ever decide WP is not for you.

It’s constantly changing, evolving and improving so I would definitely say it’s secure if you keep track of being up to date on everything that is provided.

Hope I gave you some insight ??

To add on to David’s answer: All of your data is stored in a MySQL database and all of your uploaded media can be found via FTP/cPanel/etc. at wp-content/uploads. If the worst did happen, as long as you could still access your accounts with your hosting company, you can always get your data back.

Yes indeed! That much holds true ??

To further add, even if WordPress were to suddenly end after over 10 solid years of development and powering 25% of all known websites, absolutely nothing would happen to your site. It’s entirely self-contained and would last as long as you continue to pay your hosting provider and domain registrar. ??

With that hyperbole out of the way though, WordPress isn’t going anywhere. Here’s a little bit from the co-founder of WordPress, published just yesterday: https://ma.tt/2015/11/seventy-five-to-go/
