Mitch the easiest way to find out if a plugin in the repository is breaking any rules is drop the WordPress development team an email via
[email protected]
I do this when I’ve tried plugins I think are breaking the rules. Otto, Mike etc… are really fast at dealing with issues. Several plugins I’ve emailed about have been pulled until the developers fixed the issues.
I find it’s a waste of time contacting the plugin developer, they will argue there’s nothing wrong with what they are doing.
I don’t know if this plugin is breaking any rules (didn’t try it, not wasting my time on what sounds like crippleware), if after the trial period all functionality is crippled (what Denis describes sounds like default WordPress behavior after the trial) I would bet good money the plugin will be removed and the developer will be expected to fix the issues before it’s reincluded.
Since I’ve not tried the plugin I won’t be reporting the plugin, if others think it’s breaking the TOS send an email with some details.
To the developer if you are breaking the TOS I suggest you fix it before someone sends an email (you know now there’s an email here it’s going to happen and it does sound like you shouldn’t be in the repository). IME you could have your plugin out of the repository for weeks while you fix any issues (assuming you can fix them) and resubmit.
