First, I can’t determine if I’m using NGINX or Apache. The network tab in debeloper tools shows nothing about this information.

    1. I’m enabling prevent hotlinking and restrict media library options but all the images still able to access via direct link.
    2. So, do I need to individually protect each and every image I want protected? I tried this but it was still accessible.
    3. Yes, I tried the troubleshooting but I couldn’t even determine what server I’m using. I’m on Namecheap shared hosting.
    4. If I can get it working, I’m using Woocommerce and need to have the original file downloadable. Is this possible or I need to use the generated file link?

The problem is I will have 10s of thousands of images I need protected and downloadable. Changing each link to a custom PDA link will be near impossible.

***I had hoped the prevent hotlinking and restrict media library would work but it’s not at all. Do I need to protect each individually?

How do I protect a directory so the images within are only downloadable when accessed by my site, not via hotlinking?? Sounds so simple but seems impossible.

    Hi redtailboas,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

I will answer your question below:

First, I can’t determine if I’m using NGINX or Apache. The network tab in developer tools shows nothing about this information.
    – You can reach out support of hosting provider to know which server you are using.

I’m enabling prevent hotlinking and restrict media library options but all the images still able to access via direct link.
So, do I need to individually protect each and every image I want protected? I tried this but it was still accessible.
    – This could be a cache issue or about Rewrite rule incorrect, to check this issue we will need information about your hosting server, cache server.

If I can get it working, I’m using Woocommerce and need to have the original file downloadable. Is this possible or I need to use the generated file link?

-We have many ways to protect your files\images which don’t need to setup protect each file\image like:?Search and Replace?for image embedded in you pages\post, protect your file by category…. ?
