So the next not-so-obvious question then is… is there a plugin that would add forum-like capability to WordPress comments? I’ve been trying to figure out how to build a better sense of community among my visitors.

Not sure what your definition of “forum-like capability” is. A forum does nothing but allow a post and follow on comments. Unless of course you are attempting to allow visitors to start a new subject and thread, in that case I doubt if that type of plugin is available.

Anyway maybe the Threaded Comments plugin is something to check out.

WordPress lets me broadcast my opinion, where forums are better for building communities. I guess I was looking for a cross; perhaps my WordPress post as a forum topic automatically.

I get 300+ visitors a day to my site but they don’t know each other. I’m just brainstorming. :/

In a way, your WP post does become a forum topic automatically. Anybody can comment on it.

Sphyr: try https://xdweb.net – he’s made a forum plugin which works quite well. It’s a bit feature limited as yet, but he’s working on it….
