Is there such a beast?

There are several ways to create random images in your header, or elsewhere. You can search for “random images php” in google and find them and maybe there is a plugin at https://codex.wordpress.com/Plugins or https://www.wp-plugins.net. Here are a couple that I liked:

I have the first one from photomatt on my site. I love it.

I attempted something like this while designing my own blog, and while I’m sure my coding is pretty inelegant, I did manage to make it work – in action at blog.incoherence.ca

I incorporated 4 random images in my design and found right away that I wasn’t able to call the function 4 times without each call bringing up the same picture in all the slots. I eventually ended up dividing my photos into 4 separate directories and it worked that way. I used the script available at photomatt.net, so I’m not sure if one of the other ones can do this better. I’d like to know if there is though!

One thing I still haven’t haven’t been able to figure out is that the images sometimes don’t change when refreshed in FireFox, but will each time in IE.

Thanks, endlessW. Yes, the way you’ve done it is what I had in mind, although I’d rather not have to break the images out into separate folders.

If I knew PHP, I think this would be easily doable. Basically, each header would be an array of eight elements. Each image would have an index number as its filename. You’d randomly fill the array and then test the index numbers to be sure they were unique. If they weren’t, you’d fill the array again until they were.
