    Hi @100plugins,

Thanks for your work on this excellent plugin! ??????

As the title says… I couldn’t see a link to a GitHub repo. Also, are you interested in accepting pull requests?

I noticed that your Demos show beach-related Icons, but your Pro version lists “Custom marker icons” as a paid-for feature. Could you clarify this?

    All the best!

    Joe

    Hi @morehawes,

I don’t have a public repo but of course I’m always open to change requests.

The demo indeed shows custom icons which is a PRO feature. In the free version you can choose from a couple of coloured icons (or use CSS).

    Best regards,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

    Thanks for your response ??

Sweet, let me know if you want any help setting something up. In the mean-time I am happy to keep a clone in sync ??

I think as it stands your plugin is quite misleading about what is and is not included in the free (GPLv3) version hosted here.

I also believe it also violates multiple (truly) open-source licenses and terms of service. Your plugin is called “Open User Map”, presumably a play on the hugely popular “Open Street Map” brand and up-sells the unlocking of features that are freely available elsewhere, many of them requiring other open-source software and without the proper attribution.

I hope the following illustrates why I believe this to be the case:

I am an experienced web developer and open-source advocate, so please let me know if I can help with getting of any of these things corrected or add further detail to clarify!

    Best regards,

    Joe

    Hi Daniel,

I hope this finds you well. I noticed you are watching the public repo I set up and I was wondering if you had any response to the concerns I outlined above?

I believe as it stands things are very misleading.

    Best regards,

    Hello Joe,

I will ship a solution regarding the missing attributions with the upcoming update of Open User Map. And I will take into consideration to add an additional demo that only shows free features to make this more transparent.

Other than that I’ve noticed you are offering your own map plugin as well. I don’t think it is good practice to target other map plugins on the market with things like naming or providing a public repo under your own account.

    Best regards,
    Daniel

Thanks for your response, I look forward to checking out the updates ??

I maintain a number of free and open-source WordPress plugins, none of which offer any paid features or upgrades. The mapping plugin you are referring to has been a labour of love of mine, which has taken years and thousands of hours to create.

Currently your plugin misleads users about what is free and it restricts very basic functionality behind a pay wall. As well as using OSM as your namesake (i.e. Open User Map), your paid-for software serves OSM data without proper attribution. In my opinion… not cool.

    Best regards,

    Joe
