Is there an easy way to determine whether REST API is required?

    How can we determine (short of trial and error) if other plugins/themes on a site need to have the REST API enabled for anonymous users?

    i.e. how to determine that it is safe to use this plugin without breaking something?

    Sorry for the late reply, for some reason this post did not show up on my radar. That said, allow me to respond to your questions:

    Trial and error (and reading docs) is the only way that I know of.

    Yeah to be 100% sure, you will need to go thru each of your plugins and check the docs, ask the developer, et al. Not sure if there are any shortcuts.
