Is there a way to update plugins via FTP?

  • Following the 3.9.1 update I cannot update any of my plugins.
    There are multiple issues on the site following the update but the biggest one is the inability to save or make any changes.

    Widget content cannot be updated, plugins cannot be updated, posts and pages cannot be published.

    To find the conflicting plugin I can only disable the plugins via FTP by renaming the folders. Currently multiple plugins have updates for 3.9.1 available which might fix the overall problem, but I can’t test them as I cannot update the plugins via the dashboard. If I delete the plugin folders via FTP I will have reinstall each plugin from new and re-enter their many, many settings.

    Is there a way to update a plugin via FTP or a way to roll back the WordPress update?
