Is there a way to display an image with each category in the category widget?

  • I found a nifty little plugin to associate images with categories. It works great. I successfully modified my child theme to access and display the images in posts.

    But what I really want to do is have the images next to each category in the category widget that shows in the sidebar. (They are thumbnail-sized images.) I can’t for the life of me figure out where that code resides.

    I can’t believe in this day and age we have only rudimentary control over how categories are displayed. So it must be me. Where should I put my code?
